Anna van Nunen

Representative of company:
Innofest

Website:
www.innofest.co

Bio:
Anna van Nunen – Innofest | As founder of Innofest, Anna is all about innovation, sustainability & festivals. Innofest uses festivals as living labs for innovation testing, providing entrepreneurs with a safe and contained environment to test their prototypes. This works because Innofest sees festivals as mini-societies, with a similar infrastructure as in the real world, such as a temporary energy grid, water grid, and thousands of end users of innovation: the festival visitors. On a yearly basis, Innofest helps 30 entrepreneurs from prototype to ready-to-market product, by testing their prototype on the festival grounds.
Past November Innofest was granted the European Enterprise Promotion Award for best initiative for entrepreneurs in Europe in 2017. Anna was part of the ‘jonge duurzame 100’ and FD’s ‘entrepreneurial talent’.

You need to talk to me, because:
Innofest beliefs that connecting festivals to innovation ecosystems is worth it. And the good news is that this works everywhere in the world where festivals and innovation funnels exist. After two years of pioneering, Innofest is already helping other regions throughout Europe to set up their own Innofest. We’d love to spread the word. So if you want to join, come talk to us!

Arthur Melissen

Representative of company:
Storro B.V.

Website:
https://storro.com/

Bio:
Arthur wants to revolutionize the way people use computers. He's been writing software since the age of thirteen, when he started to automate his parents' invoice system on their request.

After graduating with a Masters degree in Human Media Interaction from the University of Twente in the Netherlands, Arthur has been actively involved in the technical startup scene. At first in the field of autonomous sensor networks, and later on in cyber security, in which he is specialised in decentralized systems and blockchain technologies.

Arthur is the Chief Technology Officer of Storro, a finalist in the 2018 SXSW Accelerator Pitch Event. He is the origin of many of the concepts that have enabled Storro to win several awards, such as the Shell/LiveWire award, the EU Top 50 Start-ups award and the Twente Young Technology Award. Also, he has written several papers about decentralized systems which were published by the European Research Consortium on Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM).

When he is not writing code, Arthur is often found sailing, cycling and hiking in Europe and other continents.

You need to talk to me, because:
In the last three years, hackers have breached data warehouses for nearly every type of information we store online. Our emails, cloud storage accounts, financial data and even our medical records have been stolen, not just individually but through bulk data breaches.
It has become clear that massive, centralized systems will not be the solutions for the twenty-first century we envisioned them to be.
The incredible rise in popularity of decentralized systems like bitcoin is a step in the right direction. I want to take us further.

At the core of her philosophy lies the striking idea that each moment of a human life provides an opportunity for deep transformation. She encourages her audience to embrace this concept, for a life improvised is a life well lived.

Lisette Ros

(collective) size:
1

Website:
www.lisetteros.com

Bio:
Always choosing the road less travelled, Lisette Ros evolved from fashion into conceptual performance art. Always approaching her work with the question “Why are things the way they are?” and equally important: why are we taking everything for granted? Seeking to confront `{`herself`}` by questioning and challenging physical conditioning, fluid identity, compulsion and daily rhythm by doing experiments. Everything she does is aimed at disrupting conventions, routine behaviour and banal actions.

For The Living Museum at SXSW she has developed a very intimate performance art titled “INTERVENING SPACE: My self, The Body” in which Lisette literally uses herself as a tool to, in the end, give the spectator the same confrontation, and another awareness, mentally and physically.

You need to talk to me, because:
I spy with my little eye.

As a conceptual performance artist, I am mainly triggered by man and their behavior. A pressing example that continues to inspire me is the fact that we humans are no longer touched and do not know how we can touch ourselves anymore. Life seems to be filled with the other’s views and perspectives and we are rarely able to touch upon the layers below that surface. In my performances, I am using the emotion of “discomfort” as strength in order to encourage confrontation between myself and the audience and to literally pull ourselves out of that conditioned layer. I look upon a lot of the elements of my life as an on going research, as growing pains, so that I can utilize my body and mind to achieve this goal of liberation. This is how I hope to revive the more multi-layered society that we once knew.

My art reflects other ‘Is’ than I tend to show in everyday life – since no one in the West, including myself, can escape the other’s perspective and view. In fear and using positive tensions I am looking for a core through my other ‘Is’. Maybe even the unknown.

My favorite quote:
“Nothing can be “changed” if we continue on starting at the end of the channel… Just because you are shaped the way you are throughout your life, doesn’t mean that this can result in a safe and riskless zone of ‘taking everything for granted.’”

Website:
www.blockchainprojects.nl
www.dutchdigitaldelta.nl/blockchain

Bio:
In order to establish the exact opportunities and threats of blockchain technology, the Dutch Public Service requested Blockchainprojects.nl to start pilot projects within the Government. These projects are aimed at achieving two specific goals:

1.Enhance knowledge regarding Blockchain within the participating organisations;
2. Develop use cases for (future) application of Blockchain technology

During the blockchain projects, the participating organisations developed a use case with one or more technical experts. This lays the foundation for future blockchain driven services or products. 35 Governmental organisations started already one or more pilot projects during the timeframe 2016- 2018. During the national pilot rounds, several participating organisations indicated that they would like to collaborate with their counterparts in different countries. At the same time, the blockchain initiative by the Dutch triggered interest from abroad. Via international pilots and other joint activities, we facilitate international blockchain collaboration between the Netherlands and the EU, VN, World Bank, India, Dubai, Singapore, Canada, Belgium and Scandinavian countries. We are searching for countries and cities which are considering to be the frontrunners of blockchain development in the public sector. This international network contributes to the exchange of ideas, use cases and best practices.
At the end of 2016 the Dutch Goverment initiated the Dutch Blockchain Coalition, where government, industry, startups and universities work together on blockchain. Together they have assumed a leading role and joint responsibility for the success of the Action Agenda of the Dutch Blockchain Coalition.
The coalition is permanently open for experts and stakeholders who want to make a contribution so that the coalition realises the maximum result. In this process, it will be continuously considered where the best match lies between the expertise offered and the interest of the programme, which should be viewed as a rolling agenda. The collaboration is for a period of several years, can assume different working practices, and in mutual consultation will be harmonised with the possibilities and needs of the partners involved.

Max Meser

(Band) size:
2

Website:
www.maxmeser.com

Bio:
Max Meser, half Spanish, half Dutch, with the looks of a classic British sixties Mod, we have an original European here!
Debuting with his chart topping album “Change” in 2016, in 2017 he delivered his second one “Pictures”. This time produced by Andy Crofts, from Paul Weller’s band.
The Modfather himself loves Max’s music and style too and took him on tour! So did Jake Bugg and The Strypes. Watch out for Max Meser SXSW!
(At SXSW Max will play an acoustic set with his friend Isaac Wadsworth).

You need to talk to us, because:
Max is special, his two passports account for that, but is recognized by the great names in his genre too: Paul Weller, Jake Bugg, The Strypes, all dedicated Max Meser fans. And Max is living the Mod credo, he never looks back, his new album will have a totally new sound. Yes, retro, but with the Max Meser feel.
Another good reason to talk to Max: he speaks English and Spanish, cool for the South American delegates!

Mozes and the Firstborn

(Band) size:
4

Website:
www.mozesandthefirstborn.com

Bio:
Playing a potent mix of sleazy grunge and power pop perfections Mozes and the Firstborn hail from Eindhoven, The Netherlands. Their inspiratons vary from Guided by Voices and Beck to Weezer and Nirvana.

The Californian label Burgers Records released their self-titled debut album in 2014. Since then the band has embarked on international tours with The Growlers, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Together Pangea, crisscrossing the United States and Europe. In 2016 the band released Great Pile of Nothing, a more introvert and mellow LP.

The past year Mozes and the Firstborn have been recording new tunes for their third full-length album. Embracing the feel of a mixtape, they blend their favorite styles and genres into an intriguing conglomeration of songs. The band has worked with a number of producers, including producer/mixer Chris Coady (Beach House, Slowdive) and Roland Cosio (Together Pangea, Fuzz).

You need to talk to us, because:
We think our combination of excellent song writing and good work ethic is the ideal combination for a band. We don't sit around and wait until our chance might come. To make music that really stands out we believe that everything needs to fall in its place. We are not looking for people to pet us or say everything will turn out fine. Instead, we are looking for partners to help us in fields we don't have professional experience in. This might sound a bit candid, but we are just really passionate about this band.

Representative of company:
Chargetrip

Establishing date:
We launched our prototype together with the Norwegian Elbilforeningen in July 2017

Company size:
4

Website:
www.chargetrip.com

Bio:
Chargetrip is an intelligent routing platform for Electric Mobility. Using driving and charging data from our navigation apps we are developing predictive models for energy companies and fleet operators.

Our models enable industry players (transportation- and logistics companies, fleet operators, electricity companies, grid operators, charge point operators, automotive companies, navigation suppliers, urban planners, governments, etc.) to optimize their utilization of electric vehicles and electric power. By doing so, we increase the financial advantages electric mobility has to offer, accelerating its global adoption.

Chargetrip is based in Amsterdam, but active around the world. Our team consists of user-centric product designers, artificial Intelligence specialists, data engineers and EV enthusiasts. We are all passionate about accelerating the sustainable energy transition.

You need to talk to me, because:
Driving electric is the future, but important pieces of the puzzle are missing for ‘regular’ people and companies to adopt EV’s. When charging along the way for instance, questions arise like; where can I charge, will the station be operational, will there be a waiting line, am I able to pay and is there anything to do while we wait?

All these uncertainties cause range- and charge anxiety, discouraging many regular drivers to make the switch. Chargetrip’s intuitive predictive route planning fills in those gaps and ensures everyone wants to jump on board an electric car, -van, -truck or -bus.

My favorite quote:
“New technologies get adopted when they are easy and effortless to use for ‘normal’ (non-technical) people. Currently, there are still too many missing puzzle pieces in the Electric Mobility market preventing true mass adoption.” says Pieter Waller, Founder & CCO of Chargetrip.

“Different industry players are technically optimizing their own silo. Drivers however, need a frictionless user experience across the entire e-mobility ecosystem. Chargetrip fixes three market-wide adoption barriers (range anxiety, charge anxiety, complexity for fleets) by which we accelerate the global mass adoption of EV’s,” continues Waller.

Rosemary & Garlic

Establishing date:

(Band) size:
4

Website:
www.rosemaryandgarlic.com

Bio:
In just a few years, the Netherlands-based duo Rosemary & Garlic managed to enchant an ever-growing audience with their music, rooted in folk and singer-songwriter tradition, but exceeds all categories too. January 2018 their debut album was released worldwide via Nettwerk Music Group. Rosemary & Garlic’s songs aren’t part of a specific genre, adding layers of paint from both electronic and vintage palettes, whether it’s a subtle change of chords (like Nick Drake) or distancing sounds and rhythms with echoing electric guitars (like Sufjan Stevens). But always with a melancholic heart, in which some may recognize the old Sandy Denny.

You need to talk to us, because:
Rosemary & Garlic’s debut album was released worldwide last January 2018 and already gained over 2.5M plays on Spotify. After playing Eurosonic Noorderslag they did a lot of shows across Europe (GER, UK, NL, TUR) and gained national press & rtv in several European countries like Netherlands, Italy, Germany, United Kingdom and France. Rosemary & Garlic signed to Nettwerk Music in 2017 and are now looking for suitable collabs, booking-agents, sync-agents to join the team. We love to make beautiful things in the present but also love to move and look forward.

Sam Andrea

(collective) size:
1

Bio:
Amsterdam’s wildest man, Sam Andrea, a phenomenal painter and a beast on stage as leader of punk band NEED. Andrea’s paintings vary from physical and angry to precise and calculated creations. Drawing inspiration from dark subject matter, he uses classical techniques to rebel against the contemporary farce, trying to catch the backwardness and the subliminal of the anthropogenic. He finds beauty in the grotesque and romance in the hopeless. The spirit of punk shines through his pieces making them raw and feeling true, without loosing its skilful touch. He dares to push boundaries where others are to scared to do so, making him one of the more promising young Dutch painters. At The Living Museum at SXSW he will take you into trance, moving fearlessly on a big white canvas using paint, charcoals, brushes and his bare hands, creating an art piece live in front of you.

You need to talk to me, because:
I’m bringing my paint, ideas and music to the States to share with you, or anybody who’s interested. And I am more than up to discuss future projects anywhere around the globe. If you like my work you need to talk to me. If we talk there might be some magic to find somewhere. Or maybe lets talk just to make conversation. Why not ey?

Mayor of Austin, TX

Website:

Bio:
Mayor Steve Adler was sworn into office in January 2015 and has focused primarily on Austin’s growing affordability crisis and worsening traffic.

On affordability, Mayor Adler and the Council created a new property tax break for homeowners, increased the senior and disabled property tax exemption, and lowered electric rates for everyone in town. Mayor Adler has also completed the Mayors’ Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness, sponsored the Strategic Housing Blueprint to increase the housing supply for the working poor, and, together with County Judge Sarah Eckhardt, spearheaded the Austin Metro Area Master Community Workforce Plan to lift 10,000 local residents out of poverty and into middle-income jobs over the next five years. And on mobility, Mayor Adler led passage of the $720-million Smart Corridor mobility bond which was more than four times larger than any transportation bond previously approved in Austin and bigger than all the transportation bonds cumulatively passed in the previous 20 years.

The Homesick

Website:
https://thehomesick.bandcamp.com/

Bio:
If you ever wandered around in the north of the Netherlands and came across a
town called Dokkum, you must have been really lucky. Or your GPS was on the fritz.
This little town is the home for the youthful trio The Homesick, whose sound plays
on pop music. Not the kind with slick beats and audacious vocal effects, but rather
the kind that was created as an escape from reality and that allows the imagination
to let loose. Since the release of their first EP three years ago, when the boys were
not yet old enough to order beer, their pop has developed into something more
daring, noisy and experimental. Their debut album Youth Hunt has been nominated
Album of The Year in The Netherlands and took them across all of Europe. Make
sure you don’t miss them in 2018, since they got confirmed for SXSW.
