Born and raised in The Netherlands; Wouter Westen (1973) has been working as a filmmaker in Amsterdam for the past fifteen years. After graduating as a journalist from the School of Journalism in Utrecht, he honed his craft as a freelance designer, journalist and filmmaker for several years before starting the collective Circus Family. This initiative matured into audio visual design studio Circus Family, known for it’s strong and distinctive aesthetic.
With his studio approach he aims to connect multiple disciplines into powerful audiovisual experiences using design, moving image, music and interactive technology. The experiences that come from these hybrid projects form the inspiration for his documentary film making on subjects close to his heart: music and culture.
Circus Family is currently exhibiting their latest installation as part of the SXSW Art Program.
